National Alliance Member Fired for Political Reasons by Sports Retailer Cabela's
    Activism; Posted on: 2003-09-09 23:46:28 [ Printer friendly ]
by Roger Williams, Western States Regional Coordinator
    National Alliance

A patriot -- a White man -- a National Alliance member -- has been fired from his job at sporting goods retailer Cabela’s for doing nothing more than exercising his constitutional rights by distributing National Alliance literature in public, in his community. He’s not backing down. (illustration: National Alliance flyer distributed in this case)

It is important to inform our White community about the incident itself -- and about the type of members we have. It’s also vital to let our White community know that we will need their help to effectively respond to this incident.

In August of this year, several members from the Western Region of the National Alliance teamed up to distribute literature across Nebraska. The literature was entitled “Immigration or Invasion,” (click here to download a copy) and it highlighted some of the devastating effects immigration is having on this country. The team included members from Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and South Dakota. From both a media exposure and a positive contact perspective, the literature effort was an absolute success.

Despite our success on the education and outreach front, from a civil rights perspective we hit a fairly serious snag. One of our members was singled out by local law enforcement, was libelously defamed by several local newspapers and radio programs, had his vehicle illegally impounded, and was terminated from his job. For a man working multiple jobs to support a pregnant wife and an infant son, this is a very serious problem. All of this happened simply because our member was exercising his First Amendment right to Free Speech and Assembly.

Allow me to explain what happened. While other members prepared to work across the state of Nebraska (mostly in the East), two members were working a small city near the Wyoming border. They were doing a typical residential distribution for educational purposes, delivering leaflets to driveways and front lawns. The leaflets were packaged like newspapers in clear plastic bags that were weighted with rocks. Our members were driving from one neighborhood to another, distributing leaflets along the way.

As they were driving from one part of the city to another, they noticed that they were being followed by a police car. They were not actually distributing when they noticed the car. After tailing them for a few minutes, the officer turned on his lights and pulled them over. The officer then approached the car.

Almost immediately, the Mestizo police officer became indignant, indicating that a racial/political purpose to his stop probably existed at the outset. He displayed a very hostile attitude toward our members. He informed them that they had been stopped because the registration on their vehicle had expired. He also asked for proof of insurance, which the driver did not have (he was driving his wife’s car and she keeps the paperwork in her purse). The car definitely had an expired registration, but it was insured. This was a very minor traffic violation, but it was enough to keep the vehicle stopped while the officer began his interrogation.

The indignant Mestizo officer started asking questions about what the driver and passengers had been doing. He began asking the driver if he could search the vehicle. As all of our members are encouraged to do, the driver showed his ‘legal rights’ card and said that he had nothing more to say. This only irritated the Mestizo officer even further. He repeatedly asked to search the vehicle. The driver just pointed to the card, which states that he would not consent to any search whatsoever -- of his person or his vehicle. This outraged the Mestizo policeman even more. I am adding emphasis to the ethnicity of the officer because I think it is important. The leaflets that were distributed were against non-White immigration, particularly from Latin America. Both of our members were courteous and professional in their dealings with this officer. But they had nothing to say.

The angry officer said that our member’s vehicle could not be moved. Speaking to the driver, he said, “If you are not going to help me I am not going to help you. The vehicle can not be moved.” Because the driver immediately pulled off to the side of the road upon seeing the police lights behind him, the car was not legally parked. When the passenger and driver asked the Mestizo officer if they could just move the vehicle a few feet off the road to legally park it, he refused their request. He said if they moved the vehicle the driver would be arrested and the vehicle would be impounded.

Once that had been settled, citations were issued for the expired registration and the missing proof of insurance, and the flustered Mestizo drove away. Another officer at the scene was then asked if the vehicle could be moved to a legal parking spot. The second officer agreed that it could, and the vehicle was legally parked.

From there, our dedicated members received a ride from a passerby to another vehicle -- and continued exercising their First Amendment rights. They finished distributing the remaining leaflets.

The following Monday, the owner of the vehicle (the spouse of our member) paid for the registration renewal and went to pick up her vehicle. To her surprise, the vehicle had been towed. When she arrived at the police station to ask about it, the officer at the desk informed her that the vehicle would not be released until her husband (our member) came down to talk to officer so-and-so (the indignant non-White officer). A brief call to a lawyer changed that situation almost instantly.

The lawyer called the district attorney and explained what had happened, stating that the vehicle had been illegally impounded. The district attorney immediately dropped all the charges. The citations for the vehicle registration and proof of insurance were dropped. The vehicle was released from impound and that seemed to take care of everything. That is, until the next day.

On Tuesday an article was written in the local paper decrying the “White supremacist leaflets” which had been found in several local neighborhoods. The article was full of factual inaccuracies and it listed the full name of our member, along with a number of utterly false accusations against him, accusations which the even the angry non-White officer had never made and which were clearly the result of malice on the part of the newspaper reporter. The article constituted character assassination against our member. Because our member is exploring all possible legal remedies as I write this, we are not mentioning his name at this time. Watch NationalVanguard.com and American Dissident Voices radio for more information in the next few days.

An article like this can have a huge impact on a small community. After the original article was published, it was picked up by other local newspapers and discussed on the local radio programs. It quickly became the ‘talk of the town.’ Within hours of the publication of the article, our member was suspended from his job at Cabela’s, a national sporting goods retailer. After a fourteen day suspension, his employment at Cabela’s was then terminated. He was told that the company had “exercised the right to terminate at-will employment” (Nebraska is an “at-will” employment state).

This is a pathetic excuse used by Cabela’s to distance itself from any taint of political incorrectness. Our member was fired from his job simply because of his political views. A long-time employee with an excellent record and no work-related complaints against him was fired from his job because he is racially aware and is concerned about the future of his race. A man with a pregnant wife and an infant son is now without employment, without his benefits, and without his paycheck.

This is an injustice that needs to be righted. We need to tell as many of the customers and potential customers of Cabela’s as we can that they should not support such a company. Our White community needs to boycott Cabela’s. We need to show Cabela’s that it is not a crime to be White and to be concerned about your race. We need to show Cabela’s that being a slave to political correctness is not always a healthy thing for a company’s income. This is especially true for a company that has a target market that is not only 90% White, but is arguably very predisposed, as White sportsmen and gun owners, to at least sympathizing with our cause.

A side note about the member in question: He has remained strong throughout this whole ordeal. He is a man of integrity, a man with a backbone, and I am proud to know him. At a time when most White men would apologize and grovel for ‘forgiveness,’ this man is standing strong. The very day he was suspended from his job he told me that he was ready to go out and leaflet some more. He knew that he had done nothing wrong. On the contrary, he knew that he had done something right!

Below is an excerpt from an email he sent to another Nebraska member. Witness the kind of man he is:

“Unfortunately, your grapevine source is correct. I did indeed lose my job due to my participation. However, that has done nothing but strengthen my resolve. I am ready to do more leafleting.... I sincerely appreciate your offers for assistance. I have been overwhelmed by the offers for help and actual assistance given by fellow Alliance members recently. Encouraging telephone calls and e-mails are the best things to receive right now. The only thing that I ask is for people to be proud of their heritage and get active in its preservation.”

Right now, we still have a First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech. You and I both know that this right will not last indefinitely. We need to exercise it while we can. Our community needs to continue to stand up for our rights. Our community should not be scared into inactivity. We need to support any member that is doing what is right. If this sort of intimidation and injustice is allowed to go on unchecked, it will only increase in frequency. We can’t let fear spread and paralyze our awakening people. If we can become a thorn in the side of Cabela’s, they will think twice about slavishly following the dictates of political correctness. If we can teach Cabela’s a lesson about discriminating against White people for exercising their First Amendment rights, perhaps other companies can learn as well.
